Taking care of your health and well-being starts with understanding how you can help yourself. At our GP practice, we believe in empowering our patients with the tools and resources to manage common health concerns, prevent illness, and support recovery. By taking small steps and using the right guidance, you can play a significant role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

We’re here to support you on your self-help journey, and for further resources, videos, and detailed guidance, visit the Venn Primary Care Network (PCN) website.

NHS HEALTHY CHOICES QUIZZ

We are supporting the Department of Health and Social Care and the NHS on a new campaign encouraging all adults to take the Healthy Choices Quiz. This health and wellbeing quiz aims to empower adults to take control of their health by making small changes day to day.

Taking around 5 minutes to complete, the quiz asks a series of questions about your lifestyle. You will then receive an overall score out of 10 and advice on how you are doing in each area.

You’ll also receive personalised recommendations and a wealth of NHS resources including free apps to help you act where it’s most needed.

Why Self-Help Matters

Self-help enables you to take an active role in managing your health. Whether it’s handling minor ailments, managing stress, or building habits for long-term wellness, self-help gives you the confidence to make informed decisions. It’s also a great way to reduce unnecessary visits to the GP for issues that can be resolved at home.

What Can You Do?

Here are some common areas where self-help can make a difference:

  • Minor Ailments:
Learn how to treat conditions like colds, headaches, or indigestion with over-the-counter remedies and simple lifestyle changes.
  • Healthy Living:
Explore tips on eating well, staying active, and managing your weight.
  • Mental Health Support:
Understand stress management techniques, mindfulness practices, and when to seek help.
  • Managing Long-Term Conditions:
Discover practical ways to manage chronic conditions like diabetes, asthma, or high blood pressure.
  • Preventive Care:
Take steps to prevent illness with regular exercise, vaccinations, and health screenings.
