Orchard Park and North Hull

Our surgery in the north of the city is located within the £14M Orchard Centre, This state of the art facility brings together health, council and community services.

Orchard Park, located in North Hull, has a rich history as a significant council estate developed in the 1960s. Originally planned as an 'integrated neighbourhood centre' in the 1960s, it evolved into a bustling community with a strong sense of identity. Over the years, Orchard Park has seen extensive regeneration efforts aimed at improving housing conditions and community facilities. Significant projects include the demolition of high-rise flats, construction of new homes, and enhancements to public spaces and energy efficiency measures (Wikipedia) (Municipal Dreams) (Hull).

The estate has faced challenges, including high turnover rates in housing and socio-economic issues. However, ongoing regeneration efforts have revitalized the area, making it a more attractive and sustainable place to live. The Orchard Centre Surgery plays a vital role in this community, offering essential healthcare services and supporting the overall wellbeing of Orchard Park residents.

In addition to a pharmacy, a community dental suite, podiatry and anticoagulation clinics, the building hosts dietetics, orthodontics -  and a dental training suite.

Additionally, stop smoking clinics, treatment room services and family planning services are provided. Other services housed in the development nclude physiotherapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy.

Baby massage and child development services are also available - including mother and toddler groups. A cafe and community hall add to the impressive array of services which also includes the local policing team and Hull City Councils customer services team.

Social Prescribing chat

Social Prescribing and community-based support is a key component of personalised care and is part of the NHS Long Term Plan.

Social Prescribing enables GP practices to refer patients to a range of services that offer support for social, emotional or practical needs. Through a link worker, social prescribing connects patients to community groups and services.

Social Prescribing is an all-age, whole population approach that works particularly well for people who:

  • Have one or more long-term conditions
  • Need support with low-level mental health issues
  • Are lonely or isolated
  • Have complex social needs which affect their wellbeing

Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) is a non-invasive biomarker used in the diagnosis and management of airway inflammation, particularly in asthma. It measures the concentration of nitric oxide (NO) gas in the exhaled breath, which is produced by various cells in the respiratory tract, including epithelial cells, eosinophils, and macrophages.

The test is simple and easy to do and, alongside other diagnostic tests, can tell you and your asthma team what type of asthma you have

A FeNO test is suitable for adults and most children over five.

Full details of FeNO testing is available on the PCN wesbite and appointments can be arranged through the GP practice.

The practice can arrange an appointment for a joint injection. A GP will assess if appropriate for referral, a referral to the Musculoskeletal Clinic may be offered initially. Full information on joint injections is available on the PCN website.

Menopause marks the end of a woman's reproductive years and is characterised by the cessation of menstrual periods. It typically occurs between the ages of 45 and 55, although the exact timing varies for each individual. Hormonal changes, specifically a decline in estrogen and progesterone production, lead to various physical and psychological symptoms. Understanding these changes and their implications is essential for women approaching or experiencing menopause.

To arrange an appointment please contact the Practice requesting a referral to the Menopause Clinic. An appointment will be arranged for a blood test. Once your results are available the GP will review these. You will then receive a text message/phone call to arrange your initial appointment.

An extensive mental health portal on the PCN website details the wide-ranging mental health services available for patients.

To arrange an appointment please contact the Practice requesting a referral to the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Clinic. An appointment will be arranged for you to see the GP. The GP will assess you and an appointment will be arranged if appropriate for you to be seen by this service. Please visit the PCN website for full details of the service and clinic times

Spirometry is a simple, non-invasive procedure and common diagnostic test used to assess lung function and detect various respiratory conditions, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary fibrosis. It does so by measuring the volume and flow of air that a person can inhale and exhale. During a spirometry test, a patient breathes into a device called a spirometer, which measures the volume and flow of air expelled from the lungs.

If you feel you have breathing problems please contact the practice to make an appointment with a clinician to plan the best way forward for you.
